This year the 5th through 8th grade Chorus members will once again have the opportunity to purchase t-shirts. These garments will be ordered through Image Market, a screen-printing outlet that produces custom designs. Members of the chorus voted on this year’s t-shirt design, as pictured. The shirt color will be navy blue with gold and white accents and “Hopewell Jr. High” as the school name. Shirts will be available for $10.00 each, with the option of individual name printing on the back for an additional $5.00. Once the orders have been received and submitted, the students should receive their shirts within two weeks. If interested in purchasing a t-shirt, please complete the order form and submit it to Mr. Toporski in Room 140 no later than FRIDAY, OCTOBER 16, 2015. Orders received beyond this date will not be able to be processed.

The Bad News... Last year, the Hopewell Jr. High Drama Club premiered their Spring musical, “Annie, Jr.” with great success. The students did an amazing job putting together a professional production, and they had a fun time doing it! Unfortunately, due to a number of concerns, the Spring musical for 2016 will only be open to Grades 6, 7, and 8. This means the current 5th Grade class will have to wait another year before they can be involved in the show. The Good News... Luckily, we have a way for 5th Graders to still be involved in Drama, and to grow their skills in anticipation for future opportunities! Mr. Toporski will be offering Drama Club activities once a week during Study Hall for any interested 5th Grade students. During these “Friday Fun Days,” they will explore basic acting techniques, improvisation, pantomime, and other drama skills. F.A.Q. Q. Do students need to sign up for the Drama Club’s 5th Grade Friday Fun Days? A. Yes, a weekly sign-up sheet will be posted for students wishing to participate that Friday. This will be copied to all 5th Grade teachers for tracking/safety purposes. Q. What if a student needs to make up work that day for an academic class? A. Academics take priority over Drama Club activities. The 5th Grade teaching staff will hold in Study Hall any students who need to make up assignments or receive extra help. Q. What do students get out of the Drama Club experience? A. They get to enjoy the world of theatre, as well as learn important life skills, such as public speaking, creative thinking, and positive collaboration. This will also prepare them for the Jr. High Spring Musical when they get into 6th Grade! While there, they went through three seminars: singing, acting, and dancing. This culminated in some final performances where the students got to show off what they had learned! A number of other school districts participated in the event, so the kids got to meet new friends and learn how to work with people they didn't know. Overall, the workshop was a complete success, and we look forward to participating again next year! |
